Angwusnasomtaka is the Chief Kachina, the mother of all Hu, the great crow mother who brings the corn during Shalako ceremonies to bless the children and initiate them into Pueblo cultural practice. She is seen here in three different iterations and painted on a background of newspaper articles about the wildfires which ravage the west coast with increasing regularity. The raven is always the first bird to come back when the fires have burned, it is said that the raven is black because of its relationship to fire and stories about their interaction. The crow mother is the first to be seen in the ceremony, which is used to heal the scorched earth of our spirit by the rough circumstances of our suffering throughout the year.

I’m not here as a businessman, but an artist sharing his culture and gift with the world.
